Global Online Academy

On Thursday, April 21, Country Day celebrated Pecker ESWINE DAY, marking his 50 years of service to SCDS. Hornets of all ages sported his signature look — necktie-dye t-shirts, Eye School students gathered in assembly for a Q&A session with Mr. Eswine, and Lower School students surprised him with a vocal they wrote and sang for him. The day concluded with a community-wide commemoration in Mr. Eswine's gardens to honor his fifty years as a love Hornet.

On Apr 20, Country Solar day held its annual Cum Laude Induction Anniversary where we honored 18 SCDS educatee scholars and one adult faculty scholar in front end of the Upper School student body. Dr. Sharon Eswine was the featured speaker for the event. The Cum Laude Lodge recognizes bookish excellence in the country'south most prestigious high schools, and membership is strictly limited to schools with exemplary bookish programs. Country Twenty-four hours is honored to be ane of 11 capacity in the country of Georgia and the only in Savannah.

Congratulations to Upper School Hornets Hayden Anderson '24, John Avino '24, William Whitfield '24, Banks Bradley '23, Gracie Daters '23 and Edie Levit '24, who have been working hard over the last several weeks to enhance money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Social club as part of the Students of the Twelvemonth Campaign. Out of 11 teams, comprised of 28 students from seven different schools, Team Swarming Cancer, (Hayden, John, and William), earned the championship of Students of the Year by raising $164,615. The Runner Up was Team In Information technology To End It (Banks, Gracie, and Edie), who raised $124,462. Together, these students raised approximately 56% of the total funds raised for the campaign ($515,787).

On Saturday, March 26, the Middle and Upper School Math Teams competed at the Georgia Southern Invitational Math Competition in Statesboro. In the Varsity division, the team of Aden Adjei, Avi Heyman, Ethan Wheelock, and Alysa Immature won the second place squad bays! The squad of Aidan Eyth, Ned Henneman, Rachi Wilson, and Alex Zhang came in fourth in their partition. In the Middle School division, the team of Nicholas Chiozza, Edison Zhao, Wesley Zhao, and Jiayi Zheng took the 2nd identify trophy, and the squad of Dylan Gensheimer, Kohki Maeda, Oskar Johnson-Liu, and Keating Taylor won 3rd place! Congratulations Hornet Mathletes!

Saturday's Multicultural Festival was a groovy success! Families enjoyed cuisines from around the world, student presentations and activities that represent some of the many cultures of our students. Thanks to anybody who came out for this fantastic event!

On the morning of March 10, 14 Upper School students competed in the regional GHSA Literary Contest and walked away with big wins! First-place awards went to Ben Templeton, Daniel Bosch, Silas Johnson, James Strength (Boys Quartet), Sophia Jenkins (Girls Soloist), Pete Thangtaveekool (Boys Soloist), Emily Most (Rhetorical Essay), and Vivienne Drake (Oral Interpretation - Dramatic).

With the final round of Academy of Georgia access offers for the Class of 2022 complete, State Mean solar day is pleased to report that xl of our 54 applicants gained admission. Our 74% acceptance charge per unit is well above the overall acknowledge charge per unit of 42%. Congratulations to these students and the entire Class of 2022! We look frontward to jubilant their college selections on social media during the month of May and in the summer issue of Images magazine.

Over Leap Break, eleven Country Day seniors visited the Eternal Urban center on an experiential learning trip led by Latin teacher Dr. Kevin Gavin. With perfect weather, and fueled by pasta and espresso, students and chaperones hit the streets hard to the tune of about ten miles a twenty-four hour period. They saw all the major sites: the Colosseum, the Capitoline Museums, the Golden Business firm, the Forum, the Borghese Gallery, the Vatican Museums, St. Peter's Basilica, the Trevi Fountain, also equally numerous other churches, fountains, piazzas, galleries, and monuments.

Country Day was honored to host Chatham County Superior Courtroom Judge and SCDS parent Timothy Walmsley during the March 9 Upper School assembly. Judge Walmsley graciously answered questions virtually his time on the bench, including his feel presiding over the Ahmaud Arbery murder trial. His fourth dimension with our students concluded with an expansion of his sentencing remarks that this case should prompt people to consider what information technology means to exist a proficient neighbor: "I believe that assuming the worst in others, we show our worst graphic symbol. The contempo Horizons Book Society meeting was an afternoon full of activities—an educational structure tour of the new STEM building, a story near building things together, and a collaborative tower-edifice action. Thanks to Upper School students Maya Rex '23 and Phil-Isabelle Ajayi '23 for volunteering!

The Book Club is a great way for State 24-hour interval students to continue to engage with Horizons students throughout the school year.
